The patterns below were sent to me by a wonderful lady named Mary A. Skinner, who lives in Idaho on a lake called Priest Lake, Idaho, and spends the winters in Cathedral City, California.  She wishes to share them with me and I with you.

No. 102
OLD FAVORITE
Lily Sugar & Cream
#8 short needles

This is an old pattern that has been passed around for years. I am including it because it is great for beginners and a favorite of many. Enjoy this one, and be sure to try some of mine. For variation use a contrasting color when you work the 2nd (decrease) half.

Cast on 5 sts.

1- K2, yo K rest of row.
Repeat this row until 45 to 50 sts on needle (or half desired size). Start decreases.

2 - K1, K2 tog. yo K2 tog, K rest of row. 
Repeat this row until 5 sts left on needle. Bind off.

GARTER STITCH AND LACE
Lily Sugar & Cream
# 8 short needles

Cast on 39 sts, Knit 1 row. Start pattern.
1-6    Knit across (4 ridges in all).

7 - K3 * yo, K2 tog, repeat from * across, ending K2.
Repeat row 7 four more times, ending with right side row.

12 - Knit across on wrong side.
Repeat the 12 rows three times more. Knit 6 rows. Bind off.

ROPES AND LADDERS

# 8 short needles
Multiple 6 + 4

Cast on 34 (40) sts. Knit 5 rows. Start pattern.

1 - K4, * yo, K2 tog, K4, repeat from * across.

2 - K4, * yo, K2 tog (i.e.,  a yarn over and a st.), K4, repeat from * across.

Repeat ROW 2 until there are 26 (30) ridges in all. Knit 4 rows. Bind off loosely.

COLLONADE
Lily Sugar & Cream
# 8 short needles
Multiple 8 + 1

Cast on 37 sts Knit 3 rows. Start pattern.
1 - K3, * yo, K2 tog, K 1 repeat from * across, ending K 1.
Repeat this row until there are 24 rows of holes at border edge or desired size. Knit 4 rows. Bind off.

PEBBLE STITCH
Lily Sugar & Cream
# 8 short needles

Cast on 43 sts, Knit 1 row. Start pattern.

1 - Knit across. Mark with pin to show right side.

2 - K2, purl across, ending K2.

3 - K2 tog, repeat from * , across, ending K1.

4 - K2 * insert needle under yarn between sts, and knit 1 in it, K1, repeat from * across, ending K1.
Repeat the 4 rows for pattern.

When desired size, end with row 4. Knit 1 row. Bind off.

MATCH STICK
# 8 short needles
Add or subtract by sixes to change size

Cast on 37 sts Knit 4 rows. Start pattern.

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9    K3, P1, * K5, P1, repeat from * across, ending K3.

Row 2 and all even number rows for right side, knit.

Rows 11, 13, 15, 17, 19    K6 * P1, K5, repeat from * across ending K6.

Rows 20    Knit.

Repeat the 20 rows twice more, then rows 1 thru 10 once more. Knit 3 rows. Bind off.

LACY KNIT
# 8 short needles

Cast on 45 sts, Knit 3 rows. Start pattern.
1 - Knit across

2 - Knit across

3 - K4, * K2 tog, repeat from * across, ending K3.

4 - K4, * yo, K1, repeat from * across, ending K3.
Repeat the 4 rows until desired size (about 12 rows of holes). Knit 5 rows. Bind off.

DOUBLE KNIT POT HOLDER
1 Skein Lily Cotton or Soft Sheen Rug Yarn
# 8 short needles

Cast on 12 sts

1 - * K1, keeping yarn at back, sl 1 as to purl. Repeat from across ending with a slip st.

Repeat this row until desired size. Bind off working 2 tog each time, instead of 1 as follows,  K2 tog, * K2 tog, bind off. Repeat from * across. Crochet loop or attach bone ring for hanging.

THERMAL KNIT POT HOLDER
# 8 short needles

Using 2 strands, loosely cast on 37 sts.

To slip st: keep your yarn at the back, slip as to purl.

1 - Slip 2, * K 1, slip 1, repeat from * across, end P 1.

2 - Slip 1, *P1, K1, repeat from * across, end P2.

Repeat the 2 rows to desired size. Bind off as follows: K1, * K2 tog, bind off, K1, bind off, K1 bind off, repeat from * across. Crochet loop or attach bone ring for hanger.
