CROCHET SCARF

SIZE -- 4” x 72” excluding fringe

Materials
• LION BRAND Incredible
   3 balls #207 Purple Party or color of your choice
• LION BRAND size K-10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• 12” piece of cardboard

Gauge -- 11 sc = 4” (10 cm). -- 4 rows (in pattern) = 1” (2.5 cm). -- BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

SCARF
Row 1 Ch 200. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 199 sc. Turn.
Row 2 Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across – 100 sc and 99 ch-1 spaces. Turn.
Row 3 Sc in first sc and next ch-1 space, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space. Repeat from * to last sc, sc in last sc – 101 sc and 98 ch-1 spaces. Turn.
Row 4 Sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space. Repeat from * to last 2 sc, ch 1, skip next sc, sc in last sc – 100 sc and 99 ch-1 spaces. Turn.
Rows 5 – 14 Repeat Rows 3 and 4 for 5 times more.
Row 15 Sc in each sc and ch1 across. Fasten off.

Fringe
Wrap ribbon around a 12” piece of cardboard 48 times. Cut ribbon at lower edge. Using 3 strands for each fringe, fold in half to form a loop. With wrong side facing, insert crochet hook into short end of Scarf and draw loop through. Draw ends of fringe through loop and pull gently to snug knot up to bottom of Scarf. Attach 8 fringes evenly across each short end of Scarf.

KNIT SCARF

Size -- 4” x 72” excluding fringe

Materials
• LION BRAND Incredible
  2 balls #201 Rainbow or color of your choice
• LION BRAND size 13 (9 mm) knitting needles or size to obtain gauge
• Crochet hook to add fringe (approximately size K-10.5 (6.5 mm) or larger)

Gauge:  16 sts + 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch (knit every row).  BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

Note:  Cut fringe before beginning scarf.

SCARF
Make a slip knot and cast on 15 stitches – 16 stitches total.
Knit every row until piece measures 72”.
Bind off all stitches. Weave in ends.

Fringe
Wrap ribbon around 7½" piece of cardboard 24 times. Using 2 strands for each fringe, fold in half and use crochet hook or fingers to pull through first stitch at short end of Scarf. Draw ends through loop and snug up against Scarf. Work a total of 6 fringes, evenly spaced, along each short end.

 

KNITTED TOP AND SCARF

MATERIALS

Top:  3 (3, 4, 5, 5) balls #202 Blue Shades, or color of your choice
Scarf:  2 balls #202 Blue Shades, or color of your choice
• LION BRAND size 10.5 (6.5 mm) knitting needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• Small amount crochet thread for sewing top
• LION BRAND large-eyed, blunt needle

GAUGE:  12 stitches + 20 rows = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch (knit every row).  BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTES:  Top is worked from side-to-side. To make longer or shorter, cast on more or less stitches at beginning.

BACK
Cast on 28 (30, 32, 35, 38) stitches. Knit 6 (8, 8, 8, 10) rows.

Shape Armhole
Row 1 Knit 2, knit in front and back of next stitch, knit to end – 1 stitch increased. Mark this row as right side.
Row 2 Knit.
Repeat last 2 rows 4 (4, 5, 6, 7) more times – 33 (35, 38, 42, 46) stitches. On next right side row, cast on 16 (16, 17, 17, 19) stitches for armhole – 49 (51, 55, 59, 65) stitches. Work even in garter stitch for 50 (56, 60, 66, 70) rows (approximately 10 (11, 12, 13, 14)”), ending with a wrong side row.

Shape Armhole
Bind off 16 (16, 17, 17, 19) stitches, knit to end – 33 (35, 38, 42, 46) stitches.
Next Row Knit.
Next Row Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit to end.
Repeat last 2 rows 4 (4, 5, 6, 7) more times – 28 (30, 32, 35, 38) stitches.
Knit 6 (8, 8, 8, 10) rows even. Bind off all stitches.

FRONT:  Work as for Back.

FINISHING:  Sew side seams using crochet thread. Sew 1 (1, 1½, 1½, 2)” at each shoulder for shoulder seam.

SCARF
Cast on 20 stitches. Work in garter stitch for 8”.
Make Slit Knit 9, knit in front and back of next stitch; join 2nd ball of yarn and knit in front and back of next stitch, knit 9 – 11 stitches each side. Working both sides at same time, work in garter stitch for 3”.
Next Row Knit 9, knit 2 together; continuing with same yarn across other side, knit 2 together, knit 9 – 20 stitches. Cut yarn that is no longer being used.
Work even in garter stitch for 18”. Repeat slit as before, then work across all 20 stitches for 8”. Bind off.
