Impressions ® is composed of 30-40 different hand dyed, gauge coordinated yarns. They are tied together end to end by hand, so that as you knit the texture and colors are always changing. Impressions ® has exuberant eyelash, metallic, and highly textured yarns, as well as torn strips of dyed silk fabric. Like all Stuffs ®, a larger needle can be used for a more open fabric in ponchos, wraps and scarves. This has successfully been worked on as large as a #17 needle. Neat, Cool and Wild Stuff ® can either be doubled or have a strand of regular mohair added to achieve the same gauge as Impressions® . |
| Impressions Colorways are unique. They
consist of a long, graded range of colors that are lined up in order in
the skein. When you knit with them, they move from color to color in
an organized way. For example, Cantina goes through a rainbow
run of spectral colors, and on an average sweater front you might get
through one and a half or two runs.
To join a ball of a Progessions colorway, wind through the new ball until you reach a place that matches where the old ball ended. This will preserve the color gradations. Save the wound off part for finishing, or to complete another ball on another piece -- nothing will go to waste! Before beginning to knit, wind the skein into a ball. Untwist the skein and place it on a swift, chair back or a willing helper's outstretched hands. Notice that there are three white ties around the skein. Two are tied to the actual ends of the yarn. The third one is the security tie. Make sure that all of the strands in the skein are going in the same direction before you cut any of the ties. Clip the ties, and begin winding from one end. Do NOT untie each yarn! The yarn changes will usually happen in the middle of a row. You can choose to leave the ends on the right side, as tassels, or pull them to the wrong side to hid them. Because a multiple strand of yarn will not knit at exactly the tension, one strand might run shorter than another when you get to a knot. This will happen even if each strand is measured to precisely the same length, left unknotted and knitted together. This is a natural occurrence and not a fault of the yarn. It happens because different yarns are taken up at varying rates during the knitting process. Simply untie or clip the knot, even up the ends and retie. |
