| All Stuff yarns are mostly cotton, rayon and nylon.
Wild Stuff has about 25% kid mohair, fine wool and alpaca, with a lot
of eyelash and metallic. Cool Stuff has no wool or mohair,
less eyelash, and about the same amount of metallic. Light Stuff
has no wool or mohair, some metallic and very little eyelash. The
skeins have more yardage, and generally make a lighter weight garment.
Impressions is very chunky, with lots of thick wool and nylon
blends, fur yarns, cut silk fabric strips and triple strands of eyelash.
It has half the yardage of Wild or Cool Stuff. Each kind of Stuff has its own unique color range. If you don't like eyelash, but want a color of Wild Stuff, consider knitting the garment, then clipping off the eyelashes that you don't want. This really works! The yarns are quite flexible if you use your imagination. Each type of Stuff consists of many different textures that have all been hand-dyed and gauge coordinated. Some of the strands are single, some double and some triple to maintain consistent gauge. They are tied together by hand, end to end, in varying lengths, so that as you knit your work changes from one yarn to another. PRISM Stuff patterns have been written for a specific gauge, and specify Cool or Wild or Light stuff. However, you can easily make any of the garments to the other gauge. HERE IS A RULE OF THUMB: Likewise, if you want to use a Light Stuff pattern for Cool or Wild Stuff, use the larger needle and looser gauge, and make a size smaller than you wish. For example, to make a medium Light Stuff pattern in Wild or Cool Stuff, make a size small. The gauges are only ½ stitch per inch different, so we can easily move from one type of yarn to another. The gauge for Impressions can be duplicated by doubling Cool or Wild Stuff, or adding a strand of mohair to either one. They will not look exactly like Impressions, which has a selection of chunky singles and strips of silk fabric included, but the gauge can be matched. |
